Silly Masks…as requested by Seth.
This year, we also got a very specific request from Seth to Santa for “Silly Masks”. When we were writing their letter to Santa to tell him how good they were and what they wanted for Christmas, Seth threw us a curve ball with this one. He was very intent and excited about asking Santa for silly masks. Not just any masks, silly ones. I asked him if he meant like a cool super hero mask (knowing that they sold a three pack of those at Wal-Mart! lol) but he didn’t. He said that those weren’t silly and he wanted silly ones. After scouring Wal-Mart, Target, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and JoAnne’s hoping we might find some kind of cute foam or felt mask, we had just about given up on that one. Then, I thought of a pin I had seen awhile back on Pinterest with some felt superhero masks for parties and thought I might be able to come up with something on there. The pirate mask is my favorite and I’ve gotten tons of compliments on it so far (and requests!). Here are the others:
Batman, Spiderman, and the Hulk!
A lion and a panda!
Seth LOVED them! I was a little scared at first that he didn’t’ like them because he immediately put them back in the box and stuffed them under the chair. I didn’t push him at first, but later I asked him if he liked the masks Santa brought him. He replied with a definitive “Yes!” and then told me that he put them in his ‘safe box’ to keep them safe so Simeon couldn’t use them, lol! Later on, I got him to open up a little and share the masks. Simeon ended up wearing one for about half an hour and loved it! I may have to make more…lol.
Here are the pins that I got inspiration from in making these – the pin with the animal masks actually leads to the French website that had patterns you can cut out and the super hero one had free printable patterns too! I made up the pirate one myself just from looking at the picture but I’m not sure if I can recreate it…I kind of just took the piece of felt and started cutting out what looked right and never made a pattern…oh well!
Christmas PJ’s for the boys!
So this year, I got a wild hair and decided to make the boys’ Christmas PJ’s instead of buying some. I guess I was just feeling super crafty this season (still am!) and the idea of the classic button up shirt and pant PJ’s just sounded adorable to me! I originally was thinking along the lines of some plaid flannel pajamas but when I found this cute Cars fabric at JoAnne’s, I knew it would be perfect.
As I was waiting in line for half an hour to get my fabric cut (it was the day after Black Friday) I ended up picking up a pattern and fabric to make all of us matching red fleece socks. And ended up having enough fabric left over for a pillow for each of them too with the flannel on one side and fleece on the other.
Needless to say, the matching socks, PJ’s and pillow were a big hit with them and they were excited to wear them home from the party at my sisters’ house Christmas Eve! Simeon’s pants and sleeves ended up a little long but that’s a super easy fix – just going to do a basted hem so that I can undo it once he grows a little more so they’ll last longer :-D.
Mockingjay Hoodie!
So, my sister is a big fan of the Hunger Games and I was trying to come up with something to get her for her birthday when I stumbled upon this on Pinterest:
It was perfect! I ended up buying a blue hoodie at Old Navy instead of the shirt because I liked it better. This was one of the simplest crafts I’ve made so far from Pinterest – I just cut out the mockingjay shape from printing a logo from google images, put it on top of the jacket and sprayed it with bleach! Once I decided I liked the color (the picture doesn’t do it justice, its really more a pink than a brown color), I rinsed it out and then tossed it in the washer to get the bleach out. Next time, I would tape down the ends of the arrow better or make them thicker to get more definition, but overall it turned out great and she loved it so that’s all that counts 😀
Tree Blanket – Crochet
I’ve finally completed this tree blanket I started in 2010…I somehow got bored with/mad at it 😀 and it sat half done for those two years until I picked it back up last month. So glad its done now, it came out great!
If you want to make one yourself, you can find the pattern here: Tree of Life Afghan. I made a few changes to the pattern – I wasn’t a fan of the flower pattern in the middle so I made my own. Also, I left off the leaf border. I liked the plain one better 😀
Hello world!
Ok. So third time’s a charm I guess? I had started a new blog but wasn’t sure on the change the name and thought I could change it after once I thought of one. Wrong! Glad I didn’t get too far before I realized that. So now this ones official! I’m keeping it, quirky name and all!
I’ll be keeping you updated on all of my craft and food adventures as well as lots of other random things I’m sure 🙂 I’m so excited to be able to post some of my recent crafts I’ve been saving up while trying to think of a name for my blog!
